4/2 NM cables

Nope, 4/2 NM isn't manufactured. The common NM sizes are 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, and 4, but once you hit 4 gauge you only get 4/3 with ground. If you only need two conductors at that size, you'll have to use SER cable or pull singles in conduit.
If it will be helpful to your project, TilloJon, 4/2 NM-D is still being made & sold.
Southwire is one brand. I believe Cerro makes it also. If you can't find it at a supply house at less than a full spool, try well drilling companies. I've seen them with it.
The attached photo shows the jacket is yellow. The 4/2 I saw a few weeks ago was red. Don't know what brand it was.
If your project is covered by NFPA 70, review 334.12. Note at 334.12 (B)(4), NMD is not for wet or damp locations. (Please excuse the error if (B)(4) isn't correct. My memory has gaps sometimes...)

PS: Back in the olden days of boding neutral & ground in ovens, ranges & such, the residential guys with whom I worked carried it.
