What brand of breakers do you stock or recommend most?

Let’s compare Siemens, Square D, and Eaton from a real world install and troubleshooting perspective. All three can pass inspection and do the job, but the differences show up when you are wiring a full house, adding circuits later, or chasing a weird issue that only happens sometimes.

If you were choosing for your own home in 2026, which brand would you pick and what pushed you there? Also, what’s the most common problem you’ve seen with the brand you like the least, and what’s the best thing about the brand you like the most? The tradeoffs are what help people decide.

I’m not super loyal to one brand, but I trust the setups that are consistent and common in the area, since replacements and compatibility are way less stressful later. My 2026 goal is basically fewer mystery issues, more predictable installs, so I lean toward “what’s proven and easy to get parts for.”

If you were wiring your own place in 2026, which one feels the most trouble free long term and why?

When I change out my ITE, I will use Eaton CH with the inboard plug-on neutral. The CH series has silver flashed copper bus for longevity in the often damp environment which it will live (Basement laundry area). I like the full length neutrals which are mounted near the breakers, leaving plenty of gutter space. The breakers snap in tightly and stay snapped tightly.

I've used BAB extensively in hard environments and switch duty locations with great success in the long term. Ideally, their BAB series bolt-on would be my preference, but cost isn't justified for my home since their CH has proven itself for decades in some mighty tough environments. Siemens also makes quite durable and robust load centers for home use.

To flip your question backwards:
I would avoid Square D Home Line even if it was free. Those circuit breakers always seem to get loose over time and burn the bus spot; just as did the old 1980's ITE snap-ins. Square D QO, which used to be great, seems to be more troublesome in the last few years. Perhaps those who use them more will find that quality has improved.
