Smart plug tripping my breaker

I’m renting and added a 2021 VoltMate smart plug to my entertainment setup. Every time I plug in my soundbar, it trips the breaker. No overload on the circuit. Could it be the plug itself?

Yeah, it could be the smart plug and some models can’t handle the inrush current of certain electronics, especially soundbars or amps. Try plugging the soundbar straight into the wall and if it works fine there, the plug is the likely culprit

Could be a neutral issue too, depending on how that smart plug’s wired. Some of those off-brand ones use a fake neutral reference that doesn’t play nice with grounded outlets. If it’s tripping instantly, it’s shorting, not overloading. Replace it before it melts.

could be a faulty smart plug. Some of the early VoltMate models had surge components that failed short. Try plugging the soundbar directly into the outlet like if it holds, the plug’s the issue, not the breaker.
