What’s the most valuable lesson you learned in 2025 that you wish someone told you earlier, before you had to learn it the hard way?

Does not have to be dramatic. It can be a small habit that prevents headaches, saves time, or keeps you safe. The boring stuff is usually the real gold.

Mine was explain the plan before you touch anything. In 2025 I watched a small job turn stressful because the homeowner didn’t understand why power had to be off. A 30 second explanation saved way more time than rushing.

Take photos before you pull anything apart. I thought it was overkill until I opened a box that had mixed splices and weird travelers and I immediately forgot what was where. One quick picture saved me from guessing and saved the homeowner from a lot of “why is this switch backwards now” drama.

Lesson for me was never trust the label, always verify. I’ve seen panels and breakers labeled wrong enough times that now I test every time before I touch anything. In January when you’re rushing because it’s cold, that’s when mistakes sneak in.

Biggest lesson for me in 2025 was stop trusting “it feels tight.” Torque matters, and the strip length matters, and both are easy to get lazy about when you’re moving fast. I had a nuisance issue that ended up being a connection that looked fine but was just a little off, and it taught me to slow down and do it the same way every time.
