One thing you would change starting over as an electrician

Time in the trade has a way of sharpening priorities. What felt important early on often shifts after real jobs, real mistakes, and real responsibility.

As we head toward 2026, what advice would you give your past self starting out as an electrician? Interested to hear the insights that only come from putting in the hours and learning along the way.

I would have focused earlier on learning the why, not just the how. Understanding systems saved me way more time than memorizing shortcuts ever did.

After exiting the Way Back Machine, I'd tell myself to be sure to also learn residential wiring- especially new circuits in existing houses. Residential electricians seem to work magic! (As opposed to me; where lots of plaster dies in vain.)
