Lever nuts or wirenuts, what do you trust for different situations?

I wanted to start a practical comparison thread for the Electricians Forum, because in the USA in 2026 connector choices are still a hot topic. Wago lever nuts, classic wirenuts, and push-in connectors all have their place, but everyone seems to draw the line differently depending on the job, the environment, and what they trust long-term.

What are you using most often, and where do you draw the line on each type? I’m curious where people refuse to use a certain connector, like stranded versus solid, lighting fixtures, high-vibration areas, crowded boxes, damp locations, or anything that tends to run warm. If you have a simple rule you follow that has kept you out of trouble, share it.

My instinct is anything that runs warm or vibrates is where you want the most proven, best installed connection, whatever that is for your practice. If I were advising another cautious beginner, I’d say follow code, use listed connectors, and do not treat connectors as “all the same.”

I like Waygo Wall Nuts (push in). It certainly makes neatly winding conductors in boxes easy. Note that most of my #10 & under work is 19 strand, such as THHN or THWN. Some residential freebies I do, they work well with solid also. (And solid is easy to remove: Twist while pulling)

Twist-On Hints For DIY:
If one uses twist-on (such as Wire Nut brand), it's important to tug each conductor in order to ensure they all are gripped. Wise with solid is to check the conductor at the end of the insulation to make certain the stripper didn't nick the wire. A little bend back-and-forth can't hurt, either.

For a fine fixture wire meeting a circuit conductor, leave the fine a little long and sticking above the circuit conductor. When the twist-on goes on, the fine will bend over & get captured.

And, if you choose to tape the Wire Nut, do yourself or the next person a favor and leave a little folded over tape flag for easy removal later.
