Is Colorado officially on the new GFCI requirements?

I’ve been hearing mixed things lately about the 2025 NEC updates, especially the expanded GFCI requirements. Some say inspectors in Colorado are already enforcing them, while others say they’re still using the 2020 cycle until the state officially adopts the new one.

On a few of my recent jobs, inspectors didn’t mention anything about the new rules, but a buddy working in another county said his AHJ flagged him for not having GFCIs on new circuits that weren’t previously required. Has anyone else run into this yet? I’m trying to figure out if enforcement has actually started statewide or if it’s just certain areas jumping ahead.

Same deal up here like some counties act like 2023 is gospel, others don’t care. It’s hit or miss. I just wire to 2023 GFCI rules by default now; cheaper to install a few extra devices than argue with an inspector about which book they’re reading this month.

Yeah, it’s mixed right now. Colorado’s still technically under the 2020 NEC until the state adopts 2025, but a few local AHJs are already pushing the new GFCI coverage. Depends on the county like some inspectors are “soft enforcing” ahead of the official rollout.

That confusion’s been coming up a lot lately. Usually, the state adopts a new NEC edition a few months after it’s published, but certain cities or counties jump ahead if they think it’s a safety improvement. Are your recent jobs residential remodels or new builds? Inspectors seem to be stricter with new construction lately.
