Reliable cable tracers

I've been hunting for a solid cable tracer for a while now. Most of my jobs involve chasing down hidden wires in walls or ceilings, and nothing is more frustrating than thinking you've found the right wire, only to trace it halfway across the building and realize it's a completely different run. I've tried a few cheaper units, but they either lose signal too easily or give false readings near other live cables.
I'm looking for something reliable that can handle longer runs, noisy environments, and ideally works on both live and dead circuits

I've been using a Fluke 2042 for a while, and it's been solid for long runs in old buildings with plenty of noise. Not perfect, but better than the junk that screams at every outlet. Klein has some decent mid-range ones too if you don't want to go full Fluke pricing.

If youre an electrician, avoid the cheap ones and just get the Fluke Pro3000. You'll thank yourself later.

I have had a great experience using the Klein ET450 circuit tracer.

Have you considered de-energizing the circuit and using a plant, old tone tracer? This works great for wires in crowded, metal conduits.
