How’s the new NEC treating your solar jobs this year?

Seems like every solar interconnect job this year has come with a new set of hoops to jump through thanks to the NEC changes. Some inspectors want rapid shutdown systems handled one way, others interpret it differently and that’s before the utilities get involved. How’s everyone handling it on your end? Are you using updated disconnect gear, or working around it with existing designs? I’m curious if things have smoothed out anywhere or if everyone’s still dealing with mixed interpretations across states.

Man, it’s a mess. Half my projects get red-tagged for stuff that passed a few months ago. The new NEC language around rapid shutdown zones and conductors outside arrays is clear enough, but every inspector reads it differently. It’s like code roulette at this point.

same story everywhere. Some inspectors follow the letter, others the intent. Most of us just went with the newer rapid-shutdown combiners so we’re not arguing code all day. It’s getting smoother, but still depends on the inspector.

The new NEC updates definitely made things more confusing. I’ve seen people redo setups just to match what a different inspector wants. I’m just trying to learn the ropes without losing my mind.

The mixed interpretations are driving everyone crazy, it feels like you need three different RSD procedures depending on the county.
We've stop trying to guess what each inspector wants and just standardized on a single 2020 compliant rapid shutdown system (usually MPLE with SunSpec certification). Then, we over document everything. We include a one page Compliance Summary with the permit package that directly cites the NEC article we are meeting, along with the manufacturer’s RSD sheet
yeah, it doesn't always prevent the argument, but it makes the conversation shorter
