Help me find the best surge protector

I would suggest using what is referred to as a "whole house Surge Protection Device".
If you have room in your Main Service Panel, or you can make room, then use a type 2 SPD. This will cover all of the devices in your house pretty well.
Installing one of these is something you can do yourself, but if you lack the confidence to do it, then any licensed electrician can do it for you, with no worries.

If you don't wanna spend big, get a Frigidaire or ApplianceShield surge protector. Around $20–30 on Amazon, good for up to 15A loads. Way better than gambling with a basic strip and way cheaper than a new fridge.
Avoid no brand devices. Eaton & Tripp Lite make good quality units. Anker makes good ones, too. Adding a power conditioner will be of benefit also.
When shopping check the clamping time, the very important joule rating and that is agency listed (UL, ETL or similar).

In my home, I use a system wide protector and individual protectors on expensive items for supplemental protection. This "double covers" the items in case part of a surge skips past one protector.
Unfortunately, none will protect the refrigerator against low voltage ("brownout") conditions. That protection is an expensive project.
