Getting 230V single phase from a 230V three-phase supply

We have some new motors that run on 230V three-phase but the brakes on them need 230V single-phase power. Our building only has 230V three-phase coming in.

Is it possible to get 230V single phase from that? I feel like I am missing a simple answer here. Also, do you need a 480V three-phase source to get 230V single phase and what would be the easiest way to power these brakes without having to change the whole building's electrical setup? Thanks for anyone who can answer.
 
Absolutely, you can get 230V single-phase power from a 230V three-phase supply. You just need to use a three-phase to single-phase converter or make a connection to one of the phases with neutral. Just make sure to follow proper grounding and safety guidelines. This way, you can operate the brakes w/o needing to change the whole electrical system of the building.
 
To power the brakes, just use up a little 2kVA step-down transformer to get a dedicated 230V single-phase panel.
 
It doesn't have to be complicated with transformers, converters & such.
Pick two phases from the 3-phase supply for 230-v single phase and you will have 230-v across. If a neutral is needed, use that also. (Any agency listed device that needs 230-v in the U.S. won't need one phase at 230 to ground if it is made for U.S. It will use two phases at 120 or 125 to ground.)

You mentioned "230 volts" which indicates Delta supply. One Caution is that if the supply is, indeed, Delta, your device may require you not to use the high leg. It is usually Phase B, but measure each to ground and look for the one that reads 208-v.
