Finding motivation in electrical work heading into 2026

As 2026 gets closer, I’ve been thinking about what actually keeps electrical work interesting for me these days. Early on, it was all about learning as much as possible as fast as possible. Every job felt new, and there was always something to figure out.

Now it feels different. What excites me more is really understanding systems and helping newer electricians see the why behind the work, not just how to do it. Walking someone through a setup or explaining why something matters has been more motivating than I expected.

Working with newer tech and passing things on has also reminded me that there’s still plenty to learn, even after years in the trade.

What part of electrical work still motivates you to keep going?

Lately it’s helping newer electricians connect the dots. Watching something click for someone else reminds me how far I’ve come and why the work matters.

That shift is normal and honestly a good sign. Once the basics stop feeling new, the satisfaction moves to system thinking and mentoring. Curious what areas you’ve been enjoying most lately, troubleshooting, planning, or teaching.

I feel that. What still motivates me is the clean troubleshoot win, when you find the real issue and it all makes sense again. Also seeing a job look solid and safe when you close it up.
