EICR test fail

had to have a quick and strange EICR on my flat built in 2005. the engineer said it was okay, but according to the report that came after a few days it was UNSATISFACTORY for no RCDs on a few things. They quoted a full consumer unit replacement, but warned that it might still trip and need more investigations. it seemed a bit off to me especially since they admitted to some typos according to them in the report. Should I really be replacing the whole unit based on this?

lack of RCDs isn't rare in older setups, but that alone doesn't always mean a full replacement. I'd get a second opinion before spending big, it might just end up needing minor upgrades.

Sure thing! I totally get what you're saying, it's quite common for older systems to lack RCDs. You're right by suggesting that it's wise to get a second opinion before committing to a complete rewire. Have they had anyone else take a look at it yet?

If the EICR flagged missing RCD protection, it doesn't automatically mean you need a full CU replacement, sometimes individual circuits can be upgraded with RCBOs or additional RCDs. Given the typos and conflicting advice, you should get a opinion from a qualified electrician before committing to a full replacement
