Best knee pads for crawl space electrical work

I spent pretty much all of last weekend working on rewiring some lighting circuits in a cramped crawl space, and let me tell you, my knees were wrecked by the end. I had some old foam pads, but they really didn't help much against the uneven dirt and rocks down there.

I thought I'd ask here, does anyone have a favorite brand of knee pads for this kind of work? Or maybe a good solution like portable padded boards? I've heard about cutting up old yoga mats, too, and I might give that a shot if it seems worthwhile.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions or experiences you've had.

Been using Sellstrom Ultra Flex pads. It's comfy and has full support. works like an armor for your knees. And yeah, yoga mats or foam gym tiles can be a great DIY backup too.

For crawl spaces the soft-cap gel-style knee pads work best, something like ToughBuilt or Klein, they don't slip as much and handle rocks better than the hard shells. I've also cut down a yoga mat and rolled it up to toss under me lol and it worked surprisingly well

I second the yoga mat, I have a few pieces I carry around everywhere with me and use them. Some say that the knee pads are more practical, but I'm all for DIY so I'm enjoying life with what I have at the moment.

I've been through the same struggle working long hours in crawl spaces and attics, and the wrong pads can really make it rough on the knees. A couple of things that helped me were using gel-style knee pads, since they distribute weight better on uneven surfaces. Another simple option is cutting up an old yoga mat into sections and carrying them in, which works surprisingly well.

When I had to do bigger rewiring projects, I found it was worth checking with experienced Commercial Electricians at Datatel AZ for tips. They mentioned that a small portable kneeling board with a hard base and soft top is great for stability and comfort in dirt crawl spaces. Since trying that, my knees feel a lot better after a long day.
