NEC 2023 question

I need to confirm something. I wonder, is there a rule in the new NEC 2023 (or maybe it was the 2017) that forces us to install an empty supplemental raceway (like basement to attic) in a dwelling unit for future use (think solar, storage, etc.)?
I swear I remember pulling one in a multi family job years ago, but I can't find the article now! Am I looking in the wrong place, or did that requirement disappear?

From what we have in both the 2017 and 2023 editions of the NEC, there’s no standalone requirement to install an empty conduit purely for “future use” in a dwelling unit. Some remodel or building codes talk about future flexibility, but the NEC itself focuses on required circuitry, protection, and wiring methods. It’s possible you ran into a local inspection comment or a builder guideline that encouraged a basement-to-attic raceway for things like solar or EV readiness, which is becoming more common but isn’t a NEC rule per se. Did the inspector or engineer reference a clause when you pulled that raceway?

If you do install empty raceway(s) from basement to attic, it is wise to fire stop the ends.

PA: Maybe put 2+ raceways- One for line voltage and one for low.

no no... I never see anything in the NEC that would compel one to add an extra conduit. I did that often where it was practical just for future use. Not a bad idea, but not necessary
